Today I’ll write about some changes that I would like to see in the curriculum of my career.
First of all, I must say that I study geography, which in its essence is a career that encompasses both humanistic and physical subjects which must be integrated in all the problems in the territory. By this I mean that a geographer must be able to work integrally on the physical as well as the social environment.
Therefore, one of the things I would change in my career is the depth with which physical subjects are studied, I believe that at the university only the basics of topics such as hydrology, geology ... We do not see issues such as seismology or volcanology, which seems serious considering that Chile is a country very exposed to risks related to earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.
In addition, I think there should be more field trips where they teach us how to use tools that help us to measure quality parameters of elements such as water, air and soil.
Finally, I think it is very important that the curriculum of my career incorporates classes in which they teach us to use many other softwares that are required of a geographer in the labor field and that the university is teaching us today. They only teach us to use ArcGIS, and a geographer should know how to handle programs such as Python, Qgis, ENVI, and we should even know the basics of AutoCAD.
And I think the last thing I would like to change is something linked to my university's infrastructure and resources. I would like a faculty that has its own buses for field trips, a library that has many more books on environmental issues and perhaps residences in other regions for field trips outside the RM... But I think it's impossible haha:(
As in architecture, I agree that they should teach us to occupy more digital programs
ResponderEliminarI agree about the field trips, it is something very important for the learning of a future geologist.
ResponderEliminarI don't think it's impossible! I believe that these things can be improved and I hope that it will be so soon
ResponderEliminarOh, I agree about the library inventory, a lot of books on architecture are needed as well.
ResponderEliminarIt must be very frustrating to not be taught important things for your career. What a rage.
ResponderEliminarI agree in all! the university should buy a bus to do field trips! are important for the students.
ResponderEliminarI agree, it is ridiculous that they do not go deepen teaching of softwares, when they are fundamental in the careers.
